Having your lost item delivered at your doorstep is an extra service offered by iLost. iLost does not have its own delivery service. iLost books the shipment for you with one of the available carriers and then monitors the shipment to make sure it runs as smoothly as possible. For this shipping service iLost charges a handling fee.
However, the shipping service offered by iLost differs from a regular shipment by, for example, a webshop, or a parcel that you yourself send with a local carrier. That is why a different rate applies than you might expect. Below we explain why this is the case.
When you order something from a webshop, your item will be picked up together with several parcels at one location. The same happens when you send a parcel with a local carrier. After all, you then have to hand over the parcel yourself at a drop-off point, from where it will be sent by the carrier. This way of shipping is most advantageous for carriers.
When you choose for shipping through iLost, first of all an order is placed to pick up your item at a specific location. This can be an organisation, but also an address of an honest finder. So a courier will be specially booked to pick up your single parcel at that location and take it to a central depot. There it will be scanned and sorted for delivery. Subsequently, the parcel will be sent by the carrier to your address. This way of shipping is less efficient for carriers. The rates are therefore higher than you might expect. Some organizations also charges an extra administration fee (for handling). These costs can come on top of the shipping service that iLost offers
iLost does everything in its power to offer you the lowest possible rate. If you do not want to pay shipping costs, there is always the possibility to make an appointment to pick up your item yourself at the organisation or honest finder.
