Depending on the organization that found your item, iLost offers an additional shipping service to have your found item sent to you. For this service, iLost works with courier services. However, courier services have certain restrictions on the items they can transport. One of these restrictions concerns passports and ID cards. For security reasons, these items are not accepted by courier services. Therefore, iLost cannot offer the option to have passports and ID cards shipped to you. Instead, you will need to pick up your ID card directly from the finder or the organization that found it.
If, for any reason, you are unable to do so, we recommend applying for a new ID card. While this will not return your old passport or ID card, it will ensure that your old ID has been found, and you can ask the finder to destroy it for you.
Note: Each country has its own laws regarding found passports and ID cards. Due to the risk of identity theft, government agencies often require these documents to be destroyed. We advise you to check the national laws regarding found identification.
