Depending on the organization that found your item, iLost offers as an additional shipment service to have your found item shipped to you. For this service iLost uses courier services. However, courier services have restrictions regarding the items they transport. One of these restrictions concerns passports and ID-cards. For security reasons these are not accepted by courier services. Therefore, unfortunately, iLost cannot offer the option of having passports and ID cards sent to you. Instead, you will have to pick up an ID card yourself at the finder or finding organization.
If, for any reason, you are unable to do so, we recommend that you apply for a new ID card. This will not return your old passport or ID card, but it will give you the knowledge that your old ID has been found and you could ask the finder to destroy it for you.
Note: Each country has its own laws regarding found ID cards and passports. In connection with possible identity fraud, government agencies are often required to destroy the document. We advise you to check the national legislation.
