iLost is an online platform where only registered found items are published. It is the central place where finders can share recovered items and where people who have lost something can search for their belongings.
Have you not found your lost item on iLost? You can still create a loss report through the platform. This is called an iLost Alert.
Many organizations use iLost to publish found items, but not all organizations are connected to the platform. If you believe your item was found by an organization that does not use iLost, you can send them a loss report.
Please note: It is not possible to send a loss report to private finders. Your loss report will be forwarded by email to the selected organization, which may respond to you directly via email.
Tip: The most effective way to find out whether an organization has your item is to contact their customer service directly.
Below, we explain step by step how to create a loss report (iLost Alert).
Step 1: Log in to your iLost account
Go to the iLost website and click on “My iLost” in the top right corner to log in.
Don’t have an account yet? Click on “Sign up” to create one.
Step 2: Add a new item
In your account, go to “My Valuables”
Click the blue button “Add Valuable”
Step 3: Add your lost item
3.1 What type of item did you lose?
Select the type of item you lost.
In the example below, a coat has been selected.
3.2 Add additional details
Under “Additional Details,” describe your item as specifically as possible.
Include details such as color, brand, distinguishing features, or contents.
3.3 Add a photo
Click on “Upload image or drag and drop.”
You can also drag an image directly from your files.
Please note: Not all file formats are supported.
After a successful upload, the image will appear immediately.
3.4 Mark the item as lost
During the registration process, it is important to mark the item as lost.
Click the red button “Mark as lost.”
After clicking, your screen will update to confirm that the item has been marked as lost.
3.5 Where and when did you lose the item?
Select when you lost the item: today, yesterday, or a specific date in the past
Enter the address where you believe you lost the item.
You can also select the location on the map.
Click the blue button “Report lost item” to confirm your report.
✅ Registration completed!
Your loss report has now been created and is visible in your account. You can share the report via social media or send it to organizations that are not connected to iLost.
Please note: This lost item report is not published on the iLost website and is therefore not visible to other users.
Send your lost item report to a non-connected organization
Click the button “New Lost Report.”
Enter the name of the organization where you believe you lost the item.
Select one of the suggestions that appear (for example, Dutch Railways / Nederlandse Spoorwegen).
Click “Report loss” to send your report.
If the organization you are looking for does not appear in the suggestions, it is unfortunately not possible to send them a loss report through iLost.
Your report will now be sent by email to the selected organization. If the organization responds, you will receive an email notification.
If you do not receive a response, your report has unfortunately not been answered by the organization.
Example
After clicking “Send Lost Report,” the report will be sent by email to Dutch Railways(Nederlandse Spoorwegen(NS)).
If Dutch Railways responds to your request, you will receive an email confirmation.
If you do not receive confirmation, your request has unfortunately not been answered by Dutch Railways.
