In some cases, iLost offers a shipping service to return found items to their owners. This service is carried out in cooperation with external courier companies.
However, courier services have strict regulations regarding the items they are allowed to transport. Passports and national ID cards are classified as sensitive documents and, for security reasons, are not accepted for shipment.
As a result, it is not possible to have your passport or ID card sent to you via iLost. You will need to collect the document in person from the finder or the organization that registered it.
Please note that contacting iLost Customer Support about this matter will unfortunately not change this policy, as we are unable to arrange shipment of passports or ID cards. If collection in person is not possible, you may wish to discuss alternative return options directly with the finder.
What if you cannot collect it?
If you are unable to pick up your passport or ID card, we recommend applying for a replacement document through the appropriate authority in your country.
Although this does not return your original document, it does confirm that it has been found. You may also request that the finder or organization securely destroy the original document.
Important information
Regulations regarding found passports and ID cards vary by country. Due to the risk of identity theft, government authorities often require these documents to be destroyed.
We recommend checking the applicable laws and regulations in your country for further guidance.
